One fork, two photos: make the shadow your subject

A fork can give you two subjects: the object and the shape of its shadow. Try this small framing exercise with your own phone or camera. Auto mode is welcome. The images illustrate framing choices; they are not photographs from a controlled before-and-after test. Take your own two photographs Find a visible shadow. Put a fork on a plain surface near a window. Choose a spot where you can see the outline. A spoon, comb or houseplant can work too. Start with the whole object. Take one photo showing the fork and some space around its shadow. Move your camera closer. Try framing the shadow as your main subject. It is fine for part of the fork to leave the frame.
